This decision did not come easily, and we want to take a moment to thank everyone who has been part of its success over the years — our instructors, who gave their knowledge and patience to every student who walked through our doors, and our students, who trusted us with the very start of their healthcare careers. This program would not have been what it was without you.
Every ending has a beginning, and ours started with one woman's dream to fill the world with good, caring caregivers.
In 2009, our founder, Tanya, walked away from her teaching position at the community college to build something of her own. She did it with a newborn son, a teenager at home, and her own mother—living with dementia — needing her care, too. And she did it anyway, starting with nothing more than a small trailer in Holly Ridge and the belief that the world needed more people who genuinely cared. Many pitched in wherever a hand was needed, but make no mistake, this was hers. Built from scratch, by hand, out of sheer will.
One year later, in 2010, that dream packed up and moved to downtown Jacksonville, a place we've called home for the last 16 years.
From there, we grew the way most things worth building grow — a little at a time, and through hard work, blood, sweat, and tears. When we first moved in, the floors were bright orange, so they were painted by hand and retouched more times than we can count over the years. Walls eventually replaced cabinets as classroom and lab dividers. Thin pink containers were slowly swapped out for real laundry baskets. Hodgepodge furniture and fixtures were gradually pulled together into something that felt whole. Then came renovations, expansions, and new programs — so much more than anyone could have imagined from a trailer in Holly Ridge. Every one of these changes, small as they were, marked a school becoming something bigger — and each one happened because students kept showing up, ready to learn.
Since the beginning, thousands of students have come through this program's doors — many ready to start their healthcare careers, others looking for something new, and some just testing the waters, unsure of where they wanted to go. Many became CNAs, building careers in nursing homes, hospitals, and home health. Others used this program as a stepping stone toward becoming LPNs and RNs, or toward roles in healthcare they hadn't even imagined for themselves when they first walked in.
Over the years, students have become family, and we have loved watching every single one of you grow — not just as healthcare workers, but as people. It's been amazing to run into former students and hear how this program changed the course of their lives. The ripples it's created could never be measured — every patient cared for, every family comforted, every coworker mentored by someone who got their start with us. That is a legacy that doesn't close with this chapter. It just keeps going, out in the world, in the hands of everyone who trained here.
We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey. To every instructor who taught here, every student who walked through these doors, and everyone who supported us in ways big and small — thank you. You have been the best part of this, and you will always be part of the legacy we've built together. We hope you'll carry what you learned here forward, and pass it on.
Though we are closing this chapter, we are not closing our doors. We are shifting our focus to our online, phlebotomy, and medical assisting programs, and we're excited about the road ahead, even as we look back with so much gratitude at the road behind us.
And to Tanya — the woman who left everything she knew, with a newborn on her hip, a teenager at home, and her own mother to care for, and built this out of nothing but a dream and a trailer: thank you. Seventeen years, thousands of students, and a legacy that will outlast all of us. This was always yours. What an incredible thing you've built.
